Vascular Tissue System
The vascular system of plants is made up by two major parts, the Xylem and the Phloem. They are what makes the plant capable of transporting key nutrients and water throughout the entire body of the plant. “Xylem is consists of two types of cells known as tracheids and vessel elements”(Bailey) The tracheid and vessel elements provide ways of transportation for minerals through tube-like structures throughout the body of the plant from the root to its leaves. The phloem, is composed of sieve-tube cells and companion cells which unlike tracheid cells, they are alive. These different cells transport glucose and other nutrient during the photosynthesis process from the most distal areas of the plants like the leaves to the stem and roots. |
